Quantum computing was first proposed in the 1980s and is still not commercially available as of 2022, with mass adoption expected to take at least another decade. McKinsey & Company forecasts that the finance sector could see initial benefits from quantum computing by 2025, and predicts 2,000 to 5,000 working quantum computers by 2030. However, it may take an additional five years before these technologies can be effectively utilized in business due to significant hardware and software requirements.
