- 1. 1. Go on to www.wix.com 2. Create a Wix account by clicking ‘START NOW’ or ‘SIGN IN’ 3. Your profile/home page will look something like this
- 2. Introduction to WIX Wix is the website design platform that you will be using to create your band/artist websites - it is completely free and customizable. You get up to 500MB of storage and up to 500MB bandwidth with the free site version. The format of the free site URL is username.wix.com/sitename Wix accounts never expire! If you are a free user, your free Wix site will remain online until you delete it. It is not possible to edit your Wix site while you are offline, or save your pages to your computer, as the Editor needs to be in constant connection with Wix's servers. You can choose from a wide variety of professionally designed templates or simply build your site from scratch - which is what you should be doing for yours. It is very simple and easy to use
- 3. The Wix editor To begin using the Wix Editor, click Templates > the click Edit under the template you would like to use. For your website, you should be using the Blank Templates section. This will give you more variety and creative freedom to create your own interactive website - this will also demonstrate more creative ability than simply just amending a pre-existing template! You can now edit your site using the following options, available in the menu on the left side of the Editor: Pages: Add pages and page transitions to your site Design: Add a background, colors and fonts Add: Add navigation, text, images, galleries and more App Market: Add a variety of apps to your site. Settings: Change your site settings including SEO and statistics. You can also customize any element on your site by clicking it to select it and open it's pop-up menu. Now you're ready to get creative! Don't forget to click Save at the end and Publish when you have a complete website. Your Blank Template will look like this
- 4. UPLOADING YOUR OWN BACKGROUND IMAGE Click Background on the left side of the Editor. Click Customize Background Click Add Image Select your image on your computer. Click Open. Select the image that you uploaded. Click Apply. You can change the Background for each Page you create. WIX BASICS ADDING A MENU TO YOUR WEBSITE Click Add on the left side of the Editor. Click Buttons & Menus. You can add a Vertical Menu or a standard Menu. On my example, I added a standard Menu. You can edit this accordingly and drag to the correct position. The best place is usually on the header bar. Your menu will update every time you create a new Page on your website. Make sure to tick the Show on all pages box when you create your menu so that it does just that! You can also change the style of your header as well as the font/colour etc...
- 5. WIX BASICS ADD A YOUTUBE VIDEO TO YOUR WEBSITE Ask Miss to upload your Music Video to the Coombe Media YouTube so that you can embed it into your website. Click Add on the left side of the Editor. Click Media and then Video. Right click on the video to change the URL. You can paste the URL or search from the search bar. You can then edit the settings > Autoplay/Loop etc... Think about if you want this added to the homepage or a separate video page. Make sure you have the correct page selected before adding the video! USING LIST BUILDER TO MANAGE EVENT/PRODUCT/INFORMATION LISTS Use the list builder to display videos, merchandise, tour dates/events etc... Click on Add > List Builder and then choose from the list the kind of list you wish to create. Make sure you are on the Page that you want your list to be on before you add it.
- 6. 1. 2. 3. 4. WIX BASICS USING APP MARKET TO MAKE YOUR WIX LOOK MORE PROFESSIONAL 3. App Market contains a selection of free tools to jazz up your Wix! STRIP SLIDESHOW GALLERY This slideshow gallery is a great tool for your Band/Artist homepage and will instantly make it look more professional - it’s a tool that slides through images automatically. To add it - click on Wix App Market on the left side of the Wix Editor. Click on Galleries and then select Strip Slideshow Gallery (make sure you are on the page that you want this to be on before you add it) You can edit the type of slideshow by clicking on Change Gallery Type as seen in Figure 3. To upload or change the images, right click on it and then Add Images.
