Facebook Campaigns Support the Monks Protest in Burma / Mynmar  The recent protests against the regime began in September 2007 led by a group of monks. On September 19 th  a Canadian college student named Alex Brookbinder created a Facebook called “Support the Monks” Protest in Burma.  Within 10 days it attracted 140,000 members.  Membership hit over 500,000.
The facebook group had organised two days of Global Action on October 6 th  and October 23rs.  These events were carried out over 100 cities; over 10,000 protesters in London alone .
Facebook : Getting Started 1. Sign up and create a Facebook Account. Click register and fill in a short online form on Facebook.com.  Your profile needs to be filled in and shared.
2. Find people / groups and connect with your community Start by using the search feature; invite supporters to start  using facebook.
3. Send  and receive messages  Facebook offers a message board called “The Wall”.  Use it to post messages
4. Create a group for your organisation or event.
5. Upload and share pictures Start by creating an album and then you can upload any pictures to share with your members .
Facebooks Groups Step 1. Understand your Intent Put your initial vision into clear and concise words  at the top of the page.
Step 2. Create the Group and Build on Active Base Create the group and get people involved.  Invite all of your contacts to join and start a conversation. Who will help you moderate ?
Step 3. Begin Digital Action Once your member database grows; start digital action.  Having people spread your group through Blogs, websites, collect images and media or promote through social media sites such as digg ( www.digg.com ).  Keep people involved and excited.
Step 4. Create an External Site Create an external website (such as a blog – wordpress or website) that will attract people outside facebook .
Step 5. Contact Similar Organisations Have a look for groups / websites online that have similar goals.
6. Promote your Events Create an event and invite your contacts to join.
7. Promote your blog or newsletter. Post your newsletter on your page.  Import your blog . 8. Keep in touch with your members. When you log into your Facebook account, you receive an update of all the actions your contacts have taken.
