Example #1

You are a conservation officer working in a national park. A
university scientist who conducted a fecal sample study in your park
has alerted you to the fact that many of the dogs who are brought to
the park are suffering from dog roundworm. Dog roundworm can
seriously affect the health of dogs and can easily be transferred to
humans. However, dog roundworm is easily prevent by giving the
dog one pill every month.

As a conservation officer, you want to inform your visitors about the
results of this student and the potential risks for their dogs and
themselves.

Many of the dog owners in your park are from the local Somali
community which is a high-power distance, but polychromic culture.
                                                                        16

Example #2

You are the manager of the Edmonton Zoo, home to one elephant
named Lucy. In recent years, there has been a grassroots movement
to have Lucy moved to an elephant sanctuary where she can be with
other elephants and move about more freely. Unfortunately, Lucy’s
health is not strong enough to survive this move. Nevertheless,
public opinion on this matter is strong and you must convince the
public that Lucy’s continued residence in the Edmonton zoo is
necessary to preserve her fragile health.

                                                                    18
