This paper compares level-shifted carrier pulse width modulation (LSCPWM) and phase-shifted carrier pulse width modulation (PSCPWM) for cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters in terms of total harmonic distortion (THD) and output voltage across inverter cells. Simulation results for a 21-level cascaded H-bridge inverter show that PSCPWM produces equal output voltage among cells and lower THD compared to LSCPWM. The study concludes that PSCPWM is the preferred modulation strategy for enhancing overall inverter performance.
