Locality Development
 Physical: This program uses local parks
and school facilities to have their
afterschool programs, and running
events.
 Financial: This program is non-profit. The
program raises money for events and
activities through earning money through
putting on 5K races, and charging non-
program participants $20 to participate.
 Human: Adult women volunteer their time,
skills, knowledge and abilities to work with
young girls, teaching them life skills,
dealing with body image and self-esteem,
how to deal with bullies, making healthy
decision, and community involvement.
 Social: This particular Girls on The Run
5K, is supported by the community, and
involves both the program participants
and the community to join in a fun and
high energy event.
A social plan starts with assessing
needs of the community
 Michelle Obama used her platform to emerge as a
social leader. She called attention to the childhood
obesity rates that have tripled over the last thirty years.
 This article points out that Michelle Obama has created
allies within her effort’s of the “Let’s Move” campaign.
Her allies include those in government, business,
education, athletics, and the medical field.
 Her plan is to change the nutritional environment in
America
Stolberg, 2010
Her initiative emerged in 2010,
and it includes:
 Restructuring the way American children eat and play
 By reshaping school lunches, medical checkups, and
playground equipment
 Some other plans include: adding sidewalks in certain
communities so that children can walk to school, and
adding green groceries in inner city areas.

Social Action
 Topic: Crowdfunding
 Source: Cowley, S. (2015, June 3, 2015). Tired of
waiting for U.S. to act, states pass crowdfunding laws
and rules. The New York Times. Retrieved from

businesses.html
Social Action
 Human – some of the people on the
crowdfunding sites are asking for help to start
their businesses so their human capital would
be the skills that they bring to the table in
whatever their endeavor may be. The example
from the article was a microbrewery so the
human capital would be: managing a business,
brewing beer, time management, and other
skills similar to those.
 Financial – I’ll use the microbrewery as an
example again, the beer that they brew would
be financial capital because that is what is
going to make them money. Their
crowdfunding campaign would also be
considered financial capital because it is what is
going to initially bring in money to allow the
owners to open and operate their microbrewery
 Social - The social capital will also come from
the crowdfunding campaign because not only
will it allow them to make money, but it will also
connect them with people the otherwise may
not have connected with. The microbrewery
also lets fans vote on which beers are brewed
each month which is another social aspect due
to its interactive nature.
 Physical - The actual crowdfunding site would be
physical capital because it is the entity that exists that
allows people to raise money. In the brewery
example, the brewery would be physical capital
because it is the building where the final product is
being made.
 I believe crowdfunding sites are considered
a social action because one campaign can
attract millions of donations from people who
believe in the same cause. People can
crowdfund for whatever they like, popular
crowdfunding campaigns have been for
paying medical bills, raising money for
charity, helping abused/homeless animals,
and for startup businesses.
