Max Philipp has extensive experience gained in interna onal opera ons, strategic
management and marke ng and a technical exper se in the field of High Voltage
Regula on, Transformers and Substa ons. From hands‐on to managing teams in the
Asset Management of Substa ons and especially Power Transformers give him the
right background to pass on his wealth of experience. His customer base includes
Power U li es, High & Medium Voltage Substa ons, Transformer Manufacturers
and Industrial customers in the Asia Pacific region.
Max Philipp has worked for 25 years at
Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH (MR)
of Germany. In his career he led success‐
fully 2 of their subsidiaries. The first one
was in Australia and his last engagement
was as Managing Director in Reinhausen
Asia Pacific in Kuala Lumpur. Due to his
previous engagements he has estab‐
lished deep contacts all over Asia Pacific
Power Industry.
On Load Tap Changer: Func on, Selec on & Opera on
This course will aid par cipants in the understanding of on load tap changers (OLTC)
and provide them with greater apprecia on and knowledge of OLTC’s selec on and
func on.
At the end of the 3‐day seminar the par cipants will learn:
 How an OLTC works
 To make decisions concerning OLTC with regards to opera on, maintenance,
troubleshoo ng
 How the mechanical parts in your power transformer works.
 The training is held at the MP Consult’s training facility.

Days 2 & 3
Provide knowledge on the maintenance procedures of the different OLTC models :
 Diverter Switch / Tap Selector
 Selector Switch
 Safety briefing before working on HV equipment
 General setup OLTC, Motor Drive Unit & Drive Sha s (Test opera‐
ons to bring the equipment into the “Adjustment Posi on”)
 Checking OLTC posi on with Motor Drive posi on
 Removing Drive Sha protec on cover
 Removing horizontal Drive Sha
 Opening the OLTC head cover
 Removing Diverter Switch insert
 Replacing the cover
 Diverter Switch support is removed
 Energy accumulator is removed
 Diverter Switch is brought into middle posi on
 Contact shells are removed
During this process you will have opportunity to have hands‐on experience with the
equipment.
Once we have gone through all the required steps of a rou ne service you will reassemble
the Diverter Switch and reinstall the Diverter Switch into the compartment and close it.
Then we will perform test opera on to verify correct assembly. The final step will be to
adjust the OLTC with the Motor Drive Unit.
 Further to the rou ne the par cipants will learn:
 Different ra ngs: 300, 350 , 500 and 600 A Star point (3Phase)
OLTC
 Modular setup of single phase OLTC 800, 1200 and 1500 A
 Importance of symmetrical coupling OLTC and MDU
 OLTC protec ve devices, RS2001, PRD, Diaphragm
all these processes.
