This paper characterizes the performance of the Pentium® Pro processor using various benchmarks, demonstrating improvements in cycles per instruction due to its architectural features like out-of-order execution and speculative execution. The results show that the Pentium Pro delivers significantly better performance compared to the previous Pentium processor, achieving 70% higher specint95 and 85% higher specfp95 scores. The study provides detailed metrics and analysis, allowing for calibration of theoretical results based on the measured characteristics of the processor.
