INTRODUCTION
•FUNCTION IN EXCEL is a predefined formula that is used for specific
values in a particular order. Function is used for quick tasks like finding the
sum, count, average, maximum value, and minimum values for a range of
cells.
• In Mathematics It is used for perform various arithmetic operations like
sum, average, count, max, min etc. Here is a list of most frequently used
mathematical formulas in excel.
EXCEL FUNCTIONS
Functions Description
COUNT The COUNT function counts the number of cells that contain and
counts numbers within the list of arguments.
COUNTIF COUNTIF can help you sort the needed data from the rest or tally
only information that falls into specified ranges.
IF FUNCTION it allows you to make logical comparisons between a value and what
you expect.
VLOOKUP VLOOKUP is a built-in Excel function that helps you look for a
specified value by searching for it vertically across the sheet.
COUNT FUNCTION
▪ This count the number of cells that contain number and also number within the list of
arguments
▪ This formula only work with numbers though, it only counts the cells where there are numbers
▪ SYNTAX: COUNT(VALUE1,VALUE 2,….)
COUNT IF FUNCTION
▪ These formulas do their respective functions i.e. if the criteria are met.
▪ SYNTAX: COUNTIF(range, criteria)
IF FUNCTION
▪ Checks whether a condition is met, and returns one value if TRUE, and another value
if FALSE.
▪ Syntax : IF(logical_test, [value_if _true], [value_if_false])
VLOOKUP FUNCTION
▪ Use VLOOKUP when you need to find things in a table or a range by row. For example, look up a price of an
automotive part by the part number, or find an employee name based on their employee ID.
▪ In its simplest form, the VLOOKUP function says:
▪ =VLOOKUP(What you want to look up, where you want to look for it, the column number in the range
containing the value to return, return an Approximate or Exact match – indicated as 1/TRUE, or 0/FALSE).
