• #9: Download- Snapchat does seem to favor the iOS interface (for ex, the multi-snap video feature only works on iOS right now) Sign up- You’ll need a dedicated mobile device for managing snapchat. You’ll need to enter in a name (this is sort of a “dummy account” that is similar to Facebook), birthdate, email, and username. Username- be consistent with your brand! This is how users will search and find you on Snapchat w/o your snapcode. As of right now, your username cannot be changed. Ex: I can’t change my username @bookmaven530 Link your account- you can link your account via your phone number or an email address Customize Your Settings- Number below your snapcode is your snapchat score- an equation combining the number of Snaps you’ve sent and received, Stories you’ve posted, and other factors (access Snap Score gif for ppt); icon next to the snap score is your star sign Gear icon in the upper right corner is where you can set your settings for who can see your Stories, your location settings, etc
• #11: Home Screen- Focus of the platform is to snap photos and videos Press to take a photo Hold to take a video Top toolbar- access settings, contacts, and your snapcode by clicking on your profile image or swiping down (there’s a lot of repeat navigation on Snapchat) Search- each panel you view in Snapchat will have a Search bar Blue chat bubble indicates that you have unread snaps Chat Screen Swipe right or click the chat icon to navigate to the chat screen; swipe the opposite way to exit (this is the same for all the menus- swipe right to enter the stories screen and left to exit, swipe down to access the Settings panel and up to exit, etc) Emoji to the right of the chat indicates your relationship based on your snap activity (https://emojipedia.org/snapchat/) Yellow heart means… Icons to the left of the person’s name Color coded- red=snap w/o sound, purple=snap with sound, blue- chat message Arrows- Solid arrow = delivered, Outline of the arrow = opened Chat icons- Solid square=received; outline of a square=viewed Text below the person’s name will explain the status as well If you open a snap in the chat screen, you can press and hold it one time to replay Chat bubble on the right will allow you to start a new chat, also a group chat Tap on the person’s name to access the chat (go to next slide) Stories Screen- circle pyramid in the lower right-hand corner, swipe one more time to navigate to the Discover menu Memories-Circle icon at the bottom of the page below the shutter button, swipe down to exit Memories Image credits: Hand swipe- https://thenounproject.com/term/swipe-left/
• #12: Bottom toolbar- landscape icon- send something from your Camera Roll, phone- make an audio call, shutter button- take a photo/video, video icon- make a video call, smiley face- send Bitmoji, stickers, or emoji Hamburger button in the upper left corner- lets you see you’re friend’s information including their Snapcode, location (if turned on) username and score. You can change their name, block, or remove them. You can send as many chats as you want while you’re in the chat screen, but if you leave, the chats will disappear
• #13: To access the settings panel swipe down from the home screen or tap your avatar (*everyone navigate to the home screen) Here you can add friends, see who added you, view your Snapchat contacts, invite your contacts to join Navigate to My Friends  Contacts (two menus Friends and Contacts that you can toggle between); the top will show your contacts who are already on Snapchat that you can add (it will have an plus sign with Add next to it), you can scroll down and it’ll show the people who are not on Snapchat that you can invite Snapcode- tap to share your Snapcode Icon in the upper left corner lets you edit your avatar Gear in the upper right corner will send you to your settings page- you can create a custom Snapcode with an website URL that you can share: settingssnapcodesmy snapcodes Ex: patrons could take a picture of your snapcode in Snapchat and be navigated to your library’s homepage via snapchat’s internal browser (https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/31/website-snapcodes/) Trophy case- you get a trophy for completing certain tasks in Snapchat Swipe up to exit this menu
• #14: Snapchat’s single search- shortcuts to adding friends and viewing interesting Stories You can search someone’s username to add them quickly (tap the stories search bar  type in your friends name or username) top stories (Top Stories, navigate by swiping right or left), live stories around you (Around Me menu), live stories by topic (scroll through the menus by swiping right or left to view the topic sub-menus) Interact with Friends- New Friends, Quick Add, and Contacts sub-menus Tap once to chat Tap and hold to view a user’s profile View someone’s Story via the bubble on the right “Snapchatters may show up in Quick Add if you share mutual friends or have added their number in your phone. Try searching for ALAstories. An option to add ALAstories as a friend should appear. Now try searching American Library Association- This will show the ALA Live story that was going on during ALA annual in Chicago. Live stories are managed and curated by Snapchat and organizations don’t have control over it.

• #16: Adding you as a friend Navigate to the settings menu by swiping down on the home screen or clicking your avatar in the upper left corner You can send your snapcode by: selecting the arrow in a box icon right beneath your snapcode image (this will let you send your friends your via email, text, Twitter, etc) or tapping on your Snapcode image and selecting “Share Snapcode” or “Save Snapcode to Camera Roll” or Selecting Add Friends and tapping “Share Username” (this does the same thing as selecting the arrow in a box icon on the settings panel) Snapcode Scan Distance The maximum ratio of Snapcode size to scan distance is 1:7 If you are with a friend physically you can navigate to the Settings panel and have them open snapchat, and take a picture of your Snapcode on your phone (if it works correctly there will be a pop-up box that gives you the option to add them as a friend) Adding others as friends Some friends will be located under Quick Add on the home screen, otherwise you can select click the Add Friends option and utilize one of the four options: Username- You can’t browse users, and the search functionality is very particular so you need to make sure you spell the username exactly right Contacts- Add individuals from your contacts who are already on Snapchat, you can also invite users to join snapchat Snapcode- This will navigate you to your phone’s camera roll. If you’ve take a picture with your phone’s camera you can click on that picture here and you’ll get a pop-up screen that will give you to option to add them as a friend. Many libraries/universities are using their snapcode as their profile image on their FB, Twitter and Instagram accounts Add friends in your vicinity- Click Add Friends  Nearby (your friend will also need to have Add Nearby open)

Navigate to the home screen and take a picture of the snapcodes. If Snapchat doesn’t automatically detect the code, navigate out of snapchat, take a picture of the snapcode with your phone’s regular camera, save it to your cameraroll, and then navigate to the Settings menu (swipe down)  Add Friends  Snapcode and select the photo you just took. Alternatively you add the following accounts by username @bookmaven530. Try both ways so you get used to it!

• #20: Toggle back and forth between camera views by selecting the camera icon in the upper right corner Selfie Mode- 50% of male college students and 77% of female college students use snapchat (https://www.omnicoreagency.com/snapchat-statistics/) Lenses- You can right swipe through the lenses. The lenses will give you commands such as “raise your eyebrows,” “open your mouth,” to open certain filter features. Certain lenses will feature newly released songs and will include the title and artist of the song. Forward facing mode: Press and hold on the screen to view lenses World Lenses allows you to include 3D objects, you can click and drag them to move the objects. *YouTube video

Don’t be intimidated by it, you can’t mess anything up. Just tap around and get used to it.

To access all you options click on the smiley face in the lower right corner. To access Bitmoji click on the open smiling face (third icon from the left) Scissors- any stickers that you’ve created (I’ll talk about this in the next slide) Various other options with the flower and mouse icons (with the mouse icon, once you click it you can view more options by scrolling right with your finger) Add emoji to a moving object- Functionality isn’t perfect yet but it’s getting there. • #32: When you select a photo/video you have the option to delete, send to an external app, or send to My Eyes Only Search bar at the top- able to search by location which you could then upload to a story. Remember in the video when the girl searched her memories for Hawaii Camera Roll- your camera roll isn’t backed up by Snapchat. Swipe down to exit Memories or a Memories menu Select multiple videos/photos by clicking the checkmark icon in the upper right corner My Eyes Only is password protected and which only you can access. That way if you’re showing videos/photos to friends they won’t see these but it’ll still be saved in your Memories. Next week I’ll show you how to edit in Memories

Search- You can now search Stories for publicly submitted posts about certain topics *Watch video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyqQtm4wETA Explains how to search Live stories Several menus- My Story, Recent Updates, Featured (sponsored stories from brands), Shows, Our Stories, and All Stories Shows- 2-3 shows go up on the app each day; around 3-5 minutes long (good inspiration) Commercials throughout the show, some allow you to download special filters that only last for a certain amount of time Our Stories- a collection of Snaps submitted by different Snapchatters surrounding a similar topic (provide different points of view). They are automatically created and hand-curated by Team Snapchat. Right now Our Story is centered on the Powerball You have the option to submit to Our Story after to you take a snap and select the send arrow Campus Stories- created for select college campuses, you have to have location services turned on to post and view Campus Stories Viewing Stories- Tap your screen to skip a snap; swipe left and right to go to the previous/next story in your list, swipe down to exit a story, swipe up to send a chat to that person View friends’ stories by tapping on their name or via the Recent Updates or All Stories menus You can watch as many times as you want within the 24-hr period
