Peek at the Week:
o In Reading, we worked on the short vowel /e/.
o We reviewed “naming words” (nouns) and introduced
the students to “action words” (verbs).
o The new high frequency words were “she, had”.
Students also practiced summarizinga story using a
picture and words.
o In math, students discussed skip counting, counting
mixed coins and dividing groups into halves. We also
skip counted using calculators.
o Student writing is now emphasizing writing more than
one sentence and using describing words. This week
we worked on writing an opinion piece with two
supporting sentences.
o During Science, we continued talking about weather
and clouds.
Coming Up:
o Next week in Reading, we will be
introduced to the initial and ending
/Bb/.
o Our High Frequency words for next
week will be “she, you” and we will
practice identifying “action words” and
practice summarizing stories.
o In math, we will be working on place
value and examining quarters.
o Student writing should have one or
two sentences and sounds
represented. We will be watching for
spaces and ending marks.
o Students will continue weather
discussion by examining seasonal
changes.
o We will also discuss healthy eating.
March 24, 2017
Reminders
o The weather should be warming up and we will
go outside often. Please have your child wear
safe sneaker type shoes for playground running
and a jacket/sweatshirt.
o Please make sure you send in spoons with your
snack if they are needed.
o Please continue to review all of the HF words.
Students are forgetting their older ones as we
assess for the report card.
o Remind your child of one important class rule,
no touching/hugging. We emphasize how
germs can spread this way and it is also invading
a personal space.
