🦺 Offshore wind had a recordable injury rate three times higher than oil and gas between 2005 and 2023 (source: G+ and IOGP). Personnel delivering and operating offshore wind projects face multiple risks in a severe and exposed operational environment, with tasks that require working at height, in enclosed spaces, with electrical systems, conducting lifting operations, and transferring from the boat to the platform. The oil and gas industry has matured their systems over decades of experience, and refining safety practices and policies to build a strong safety culture that encourages proactive prevention of accidents. So how can offshore wind developers learn from that experience to reduce the likelihood of incidents in these complex offshore environments? Principle Power employs a systematic and proactive approach to managing risks, within our certified Management System, and through established methodologies such as HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID, and EERA. We embed safety into company culture and continuously apply lessons learned into design processes and operational procedures across every design and project phase. To deliver 1 TWh of energy production, Principle Power has invested over 1,130,000 person-hours in the design, construction, and operations of floating wind projects and has experienced zero lost time injuries. “Our processes ensure compliance at all levels and enable us to identify risks and opportunities early, throughout all stages of product development, extending to Operation and Maintenance and end of asset life management. The integration of risk controls into our proven tools and workflows, helps our team, our customers and other project stakeholders navigate risks and address them proactively.” Pedro Baptista, VP QHSE #PrinciplePower #WindFloat #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #FloatingWind

👀 Join Chisa Koiwa at WindExpo Japan for a dedicated panel to showcase the technology behind the LES EOLIENNES FLOTTANTES DU GOLFE DU LION (EFGL) project, whose installation demonstrates floating wind is ready, bankable, and reliable for commercial-scale deployment. Sponsored by OW Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires, EFGL features three WindFloat® foundations designed by Principle Power and fabricated by Eiffage Métal. Each foundation host three Vestas V164-10 MW turbines, the largest installed so far on a floating foundation. The units were fabricated at Eiffage Métal’s Fos-sur-Mer yard, pre-commissioned at Port of Port-La Nouvelle, and towed 16 km offshore near Leucate and Le Barcarès in the Mediterranean. EFGL is a real-world demonstration of floating wind deployment. From early stages through fabrication, integration, and offshore installation, the project has validated technologies for 10 MW turbines, port logistics, marine coordination, execution plans, and local supply chains. Engineers at Principle Power have built on the experience of 105 MW projects, which have contributed incremental design optimizations to the next generation WindFloat® technologies. The project now provides further insights on standardization, modularity, and industrialization to support the development and optimization of the 15+ MW generation of WindFloat®! 🇯🇵 Despite Mitsubishi Corporation’s recent withdrawal from the three Round 1 auction awarded in 2021, the Japanese government is taking important steps to rebalance the offshore wind market and establish long-term vision for the development of a floating wind industry by: 1️⃣ Shifting to Feed-in Premium (FIP) support schemes 2️⃣ Extended project durations of up to 40 years 3️⃣ Setting a 15 GW by 2040 target for floating wind The Round 1 auctions (and lessons from other markets) show that prioritizing least cost procurement from the beginning of the industry’s development is likely to result in fragile business cases and missed targets. A better way, that we hope is implemented for the first floating projects is to focus on ensuring that the first projects have the market conditions, regulatory certainty, and balanced economic support to be successful, which can then unlock a process of virtuous learning and sustainable cost reductions for the next round of projects. Auction award criteria should also emphasize technology maturity and deliverability of project execution plans to deter speculation and minimize execution risks for the supply chain. To support deliverable projects, Japan’s supply chain can skip the costly and time-consuming demonstration phase by leveraging the 15 years of operational experience that make the WindFloat® technologies low-risk and industrial-scale-ready. Speaking on Principle Power’s recent WindFloat® 1 TWh milestone, Ko Hosokawa, Head of Country – Japan, said “the wheel has already been invented – let’s use it wisely.” Meet Ko Hosokawa, Head of Country – Japan, at WindExpo Japan and join the discussions: 📅 September 17, 2025 | 12:00 JST 📍 Exhibition Floor, Seminar Venue in Hall 5, Booth 5-D 🎯 Makuhari Messe, Japan Register here: https://www.wsew.jp/ WORLD FORUM OFFSHORE WIND (WFO) #PrinciplePower #WindFloat #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #FloatingWind

🌊 The 1 TWh milestone demonstrates the readiness of the Principle Power’s 4th generation WindFloat® designs for commercial scale projects. But how do we know our WindFloat® units perform as designed? Our engineering team meticulously validated performance using real-world data from our operational fleet comparing advanced sensor data against numerical models, finding that: 🔹 In normal operation, average platform tilt remained within 2 degrees of vertical more than 97% of the time, demonstrating that our Hull Trim System delivers stable platform behaviour for maximum turbine output. 🔹 In extreme storm conditions, where the platforms have experienced 20 m waves and 59.6 m/s wind speeds, measured platform behaviour demonstrated a excellent match versus predicted behaviour and accelerations were always below the ~1.0 m/s² design reference value. What that means: Reliable and validated data from 8-10 MW turbines operating on WindFloat® platforms in the real-world environment gives us with the confidence to scale our platforms to 15 MW and beyond, delivering predictable performance and long-term reliability. “Our validated and tuned numerical models accurately capture the complex loading environment for floating wind turbines, ensuring these systems not only survive a 30+ year design life but deliver consistent, high performance across their lifetime. 1 TWh of data shows WindFloat® works. Proven, reliable, and ready to support a planet powered by floating wind.” Antoine Peiffer, EVP Engineering & Product Development #PrinciplePower #WindFloat #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #FloatingWind

🇪🇺 We’re heading off to Cascais for the World Ocean Summit Europe, organized by Economist Impact Aaron Smith will join the panel “Unlocking Ocean Renewables for Long-Term European Energy Security” to highlight the huge potential of offshore wind and the floating technologies needed to transform the market from regional to Europe wide and global. Aaron will share how Principle Power’s experience with the 105 MW of WindFloat projects that will be operating by the end of 2025 is enabling projects that offer secure, GW-scale renewable energy with high siting flexibility, near-baseload capacity factors, and production profiles that match demand peaks. Today, floating wind technology is ready for commercial scale deployment and early projects provide significant data on how to navigate complex stakeholder environments and minimize environmental impact. But political and regulatory systems in Europe are significantly lagging national deployment targets and this has consequences: 💔 leaves GWs of readily accessible renewable capacity on the table 🏭 increases reliance on fossil fuels, which are less secure than domestic resources 💸 threatens the credibility of National Energy Plans, making it more difficult for the industry to attract finance 🏗️ strains an emerging supply chain that stands ready to scale up for delivery We look forward to the discussion with our fellow panelists on how industry and government can work together to get the industry back on track.
