This document discusses the history and development of the English language, as well as the constructed language of Esperanto. It notes that English varieties exist as dialects around the world and have developed from influences of other languages and cultures. Esperanto was created in the late 1800s to be a universal second language and promote peace and understanding between speakers of different languages. While only a few thousand consider it their native language, it is estimated that 100,000 to 2 million people have learned Esperanto as a means of international communication.
