This document discusses the different types of communication that occur within organizations. There are three main flows of communication: vertical communication which moves up and down the chain of command, horizontal communication between colleagues and peers, and grapevine communication which is informal information sharing. Communication networks are sets of employees who exchange information, either within organizations or within departments. Messages are transmitted through various channels including oral communication like face-to-face meetings or telephone, written communication such as memos and emails, and nonverbal communication conveyed by facial expressions, vocal tones, gestures, and posture.
