couple of areas that will be important to the small cell
densification arena. The small cell environment though is
going to be a combination of each of these at the same time

  • #6: Windstream is the one of the largest ILECs/CLECs in the US serving both residential and enterprise customers nationwide Objective of the project was to leverage SDN for automating end-to-end provisioning of IP-VPN services across Cisco and Juniper L3 networks and wavelength services across a Ciena (metro) and Infinera (long-haul) optical network The full scope of the project involves BP RAs for Ciena Z-Series and 6500 P-OTPs, Infinera DTX, Cisco ASR, Juniper MX and ALU 7750 routers, and Adtran TA-5000 MSAPs In addition to WAN automation and network service orchestration, Blue Planet provides alarm collection across multiple layer and multi-vendor network elements Windstream is planning to incorporate NFV-enabled services in the future Benefit to CXO: They are leveraging automation to improve service velocity (time-to-revenue), improve quality, and lower overall opex while paving the way to the delivery of new virtualized, on-demand managed services Benefit to Mid-level Management: Multi-vendor/layer automation improves operational efficiencies (eliminating silos) and service agility by reducing the time and effort required to deliver new services Benefit to Techies: They are deploying an open SDN/NFV platform that abstracts the complexity of multiple network domains to automate and orchestrate services from end-to-end
  • #8: Orange Business Services is provider of global Ethernet services (per Vertical Systems Group) serving enterprise customers in 220 countries The objective of this project was to leverage NFV & SDN across their global network PoPs to enhance existing MPLS VPN services with virtualized managed services In addition to NFVO, Blue Planet is deployed as the ‘SDN and NFV service order manager’ to integrate with Juniper Contrail SDN controller and provide service chaining of VNFs with MPLS VPNs (MDSO functions) In competitive testing of multiple use cases in their labs, Blue Planet had the 2nd highest score but was rated as a considerably more open and customizable solution based on our DevOps capabilities such as TOSCA and micro-services, and our use of open source-based components Benefit to CXO: They are increasing top-line revenues with compelling, value-added virtual services as an enhancement to existing MPLS VPN services Benefit to Mid-level Management: They are rolling out new services more quickly in a way that uses company resources more efficiently (IT, Network Planning & Operations) Benefit to Techies: They are deploying an open SDN/NFV orchestration platform that leverages micro-services, TOSCA and the best open-source components to deliver advanced services
